Well for the top of the line and if you are planning on going SLI then get the ASUS Crosshair II Formula AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA nForce 780a, but its expensive, for a cheaper alternative and if you want to sli then you can get the MSI K9N2 SLI Platinum AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA nForce 750a SLI, If i were you I would take the MSI one, not too expensive and oc'ability

EDIT: you should still get a new, 24" lcd monitor to enjoy that 280

No, you are better off with one big one. You may want to look at getting a 260 core 216 and going SLI in the future.

Would not be as good as one 280, and then you loose you extra slot for upgrades later.

Dont ignore ATI GPUs just because you got a FX5500. If you are doing a AMD build ATI is the way to go.
