my next upgrade

Thread Starter
have been using amds for a few years now and got a 9950 Be for xmas as an upgrade for my 6000. Pennys are tight so went for the cheap option of a Asus M3N78 mobo to go with it. I generally use it for gaming and have never OCd my CPU and only used catalyst for general Ocing of my graphics card

So my current rig is the 9950 BE with the M3N78 (using the fan that comes with the cpu)
An Asus 4850 512
2x 2 Gig OCZ Ram (cant remember the specs but its the cheapish one with the gold heat spreaders if it helps)
2 maxtor 160G HDs
A cheap Atrix case
LG 22" WS
razer diamondback mouse
logitec speakers
running vista business 32 (it was a free download i found last year)
Just £d Marked it and got 11286 which is top for the 3 other similat systems but less than a Intel C2 extreme 9650 with a 8800GT so dunno if that is any good.

have installed the new cpu and mobo ok today a couple of BSDs but I think they are related to the drivers of my XFI gamer (which i've taken out and am going to ebay along with my 6000x2) and look like they are sorted now.

Anyways, I am wondering what I should go for next, its my bday in 2 weeks and the missus wants to spend around £100. I have a couple of options- vista premium 64, a nice new shiny case, or a better mobo.

What kind of performance increase would i get from getting the new windows (obviously it could read use the full 4 gig) but would the 64 bit OS make a noticable difference to the cpu usage.

If I started to oc the processor would a better mobo make that much difference.

Are there any advantages to a shiny new case considering i dont seem to have a problem with heat (although I presume this might change if i start OCing the CPU)

What case do you currently have?

Although I'd probably opt for the 64-bit OS.

Welcome, and please fill out your system specs under the User CP panel.

Merry Christmas!

cheers hope you had a good one too.

Have just updated my system specs as best I could at the moment, have ran sis sandra but unsure of what numbers from the benchmarks I need to record in there. Will do a bit of digging later.

lol i was a very good boy, well I bought the gf some diamonds so she had to splash the cash on me too. All seems to be working fine at the moment although the stock fan gets very noisey, just had a few hours on COD 5 and had to stick my 'phones on to drown out the noise. temp didnt get much above 60C though so will have an explore of my BIOS and ask the gf to help me plug in the other case fan im using- far too fiddly for me.

Will look for a new fan this week but can't spend much on it. Any recomendations?

I'm tending to stick with the idea of the 64 bit windows as it is running everything pretty well COD at 90 FPS maxed. The only thing its having problems with is GTA but isnt everyone. Im still struggling just below 30 FPS on medium.

right i've updated it again but still not showing in my posts. Looking at everyone elses it looks pretty standard so i must be missing a tick box rather than adding a sig and copy and pasting it. Just had a look through a few guides and FAQs trying to find it but am having no joy. Probably the amount of vodka ive drunk over the past week.
