Christmas Headphones...(Replace?)

Thread Starter
Well I told my parents that for Christmas I really wanted some Sennheisers. Instead they went out and got a Plantronic Gamecom 777 Headset. They bought it since they know I game a lot on my PC and I always talk on Vent and Skype. Since it is a headset, has "game"in the name, and is 5.1, I'm not sure if I should return it and get some Sennheiser 555s. Also, they got the headset for $100 so I could replace it for the Sennheisers.
Thanks.

If your parents are fine with it, definitely replace it.

2nd. 555's can be had for under 100 easily. That leaves some money for a clip on mic.

Yeah, they said if I don't like them its OK that I return them and get new ones. But if I get the Sennheiser HD 555s how much of a difference in sound quality would it be?

IMO, there will be a pretty big difference. You will notice it right away.

I'm kind of new to using headphones, so just wondering, but do I need to buy an amp for them? Or is my sound card good enough? And is the 5.1 kind of a gimmick? Also, +rep Marin.

You're sound card will be plenty good for the HD555s. The HD555s are fine without an amp.

Also, any good set of cans will destroy any headphones with 5.1 written on them.

Thanks guys, since this headset is also kind of tight, I'll just tell them that and order these off of Newegg. If not Newegg, do you guys know anywhere that its cheaper?
