New Gaming PC Build, Need Video Card Help...

Howdy,
Im almost half-way done w/ my new gaming build and came to a stump in the road. I plan on buying the Acer 22" Widescreen 2500:1 LCD montior, and i also have the gigabyte ep45-ud3r w/ a E8400 @ 3.0. I was wondering since my mobo only have one video card slot, should i burn the extra bucks and go for a gtx 280, stay w/ my original plans of a gtx 260 core 216 SC, or a HD4850 X2, or a HD4870?

Thanks for the advice!

4870 or the 280 has very similar frame rates for single gpu application.

What makes you like them more? I have seen videos of on how loud they can get to be and heat up with their stock fans. Also, Even though they are cheaper, evga has their amazing step up plan....

Its simple. the 4870s are the fastest in the land. The 4870X2 is the fastest video card in the world at this moment in time. The anti alias x factor is great and its a monster card. But If you want the 280 then get it.. I have no quams with you.

I say go with the HD4870 1Gb version or the GTX260 216. Personally i would not pay extra for the GTX280

Get the 4850x2. It is a long card. I think around 11.25 inches, so make sure it can fit in your case. You can find them for a little under $300. They overclock well and provide good framerates on par with GTX280. Did I say around $60 to $100 less than a GTX280? I'm an nvidia fan, but the 4850x2 has given me reason to think?

Thanks to everyone!
I can't believe on how fast i got resposnes..
I will now narrow my decision between the 4870 and the 4850X2 because although i was also a major nvidia fanoboy and will continue to when the 295 comes out, i think ill go with ATI on this battle since currently they have put up a hell of a fight

I would say the EVGA GTX260 (216 core). Awesome company for a awesome card. Step up FTW.
