Sounds like bruestle2 solved it.

If thats not the issue, before your last post I was thinking it was a short or bad connection within your powersupply itself. Don't attempt to open your powersupply unless your an electrican however, there are large capacitors that can give you a nasty shock.

right im going to buy some risers today and some washers too, yeah i think thats the problem, i also noticed i pushed back the mobo and its touching the back part of the case as well as the bottom, the metal is probably grounding the whole thing, thanks alot. il repost after ive done riser and washer stuff, everything is correctly plugged so fingers crossed ima get this right and save the desktop

well guys an update the computer finally works!!!

IT LIVES!!! all it needed were risers!

thanks much to bruestle2 for the idea and error of my ways. you have shown me the light and +repped for helping

id give more if i could but another post another time

ive uploaded some pics to show you the computer

its pretty old and im happy that i could build one. all the stuff in there were just lying around,

specs be

P4 2.4GHz
1GB DDR400 ram
2x40GB HDD
1DVD-ROM
1 Floppy drive

All ide and stuff, lol cables takes up so much space. anyway thanks again its working now.
will be used for internet and word processing, thats pretty much it

Nice! I'm glad it works.

As a side note, I'm glad IDE cables are obsolete, they are a real pain for cable management.

Glad you got it working! Just an FYI, those "risers" are more commonly known as "stand-offs" in the PC world.
