Which Quad Core should I buy? - Page 2

The Q9550 is where it's at right now, as far as price/performance goes. It's dead easy to get a 4GHz stable OC, and possibly even farther. (I haven't spent enough time on mine yet.)

Q9550 or q6600.
Q6600 is cheap but the Q9550 is 45nm, therefore cooler, but then is over 2x the price of the q6600.

I have an XFX 780i board that I am REALLY pleased with, but I'll keep that in mind for the build up around the E6600 that's coming out of this one. Will post pics, CPU-Z and new 3dmark scores once I get it and OC the hell out of it

The 780i shouldn't be too bad, though it may not take your Q9550 to 4.25 or higher.

As for me, I just got my Q9550 a couple of weeks ago and I'm already looking at my first Core i7 build...

Are there issues with the Q9550 and the XFX 780i or something? I thought this was like THE board to have, but a couple people in this thread have said it would do only ok. I got it on trade for some networking gear I had laying around. It replaced a Gigabyte GA-965p-DS3 rev 3.3, which is now in my brother's system, and my 780i seems to do a great deal better overclocking. Kinda wondering about it now...

The 780i is fine, though I don't know how well it overclocks quads (whether it'll do 2000+ FSB QDR). A lot of people have forgone SLI in order to get these very high overclocks on the beast GA-EP45-UD3P board. See this thread for more.
