i would stick with the Q6600 system at the moment.
for a totally new build i would defenitly go with i7.
But to upgrade now.... no i wouldnt do that yet.
When you deceide to upgrade to i7, may be you need also a new PSU.

i7 is still not that matured yet so you'll be good with it for a long time.
