But you have a nice GPU... congrats.
Because a Q6600 is more than enough for his needs?

And a decent i7 build would've cost $200-$300 more?

Great build man - Both of you guys are gonna have a helluva' good time putting that thing together!

i7920 $270
Asus P6T $250
3x2GB 1600 $180 (OZC) or 3x1gb 1333 $80 (Corsair)
WD Se16 640 $75
GTX 260 (not the 216 version) $200
Corsair TX750 $110 (+MIB)
---------------
with 3gb $985 (instead of $899 for the Q6600)

how can you choose a Q6600 over that?

When you have to spend $270 on proc, $250 on mobo, then ~$200ish on RAM that is a pretty expensive deal instead of spending $180 on a q6600, ~$200ish on a mobo, and $50 on 4gig of ram.

Some people just dont have the money for i7 right now when they can get a PC that will run anything out there for significantly less.

look the at the calculation above your post.

200ish ram?????????????????????????? why?

Bottom line was it was no where near in budget. I know he and I both would of liked to but it just wasn't possible.

That's not that bad but he wanted the 260 55nm. As it is now we are around$200 shyof a full build, still need a case, DVD drive, vista 64bit and a CPU cooler.

He's not playing any games really other than COD4, and when he feels he needs to upgrade to i7 then he will. For what his budget was he is gonna get alot of usage from it.

What are you talking about? The Q6600 and the motherboard together cost $370. If he were to get Core i7 and X58, he'd have to buy more expensive RAM, which cost way much more than regular DDR2 memory.

Hey man, congrats on your new setup. I know your exited and are going to enjoy that setup.

This hobby is always faced with the conundrums of what to buy when. I think you guys did well with your budget. I also know that if given any budget, you would never get everyone on this board to agree on one right way to spend the dough.

Have fun, and congrats!

Justin

Thanks guys. As many have stated, I just didn't have the budget for the i7 processor needless to say the DDR3 ram that is req'd for that. I basically had exactly enough money for the build we just did and I'll bash this computer untill it gives up. Now all I need is the 1200 case, vista, and a DVD drive and hopefully will have a new CPU cooler soon.

Off to work I guess!
