e7300 or q6600?

I want to do an up grade that will let me possibly play *gulp crysis or left4 dead in the short term, but most likly allow me to play games of 2009 such as (god willing) KOTOR3. That being said most of you would agree I need a cpu up grade for my motherboard. I believe The best options considering money is the e7300 or q6600. I'm fairly certain the e7300 is a sure fit. But i cant argue w/ the number of people who have bought the q6600/q6700; the question really is can four cores be utilized considering the games or are they.....how do i say this???? "The race car to drive ACROSS the street not around the block, not the next town over...across the street.."

I would go with the E7300... maybe games of 2009 will be better optimized for multiple processors, but I doubt they'll be optimized for quads until the latter part of 2009

If you buy them both new, the E7300 will probably cap off @ 3.8-4.0GHz whereas the Q6600 will most likely only hit 3.4GHz... that extra 400-800MHz > 2 unusable cores for gaming purposes

Okay...Thats a 'killa concept'.. Thanks My feeling is there will be nothing optomizing four cores for awhile. By that time I figure I'll need something running off a socket 1366. I just havent heard of anyone utilizing four cores....really for any real good reason. I try hard not to get caught up in hype and still have a cpu that will allow current games to run "playable" I really dont need to see whats going on in the relection of my chacters helmet; but I want to play the game and see [I]essentially [I] what the developers wanted me to se....Sorry to be confusing ..I'm sure i have undiagnosed ADD LOL

i dunno... gta4 is optimized for four cores. I'm only running at 3.2ghz right now, but as soon as i get my TRUE, im gonna crank it up to 3.4 or 3.6.

its a tough choice, but i would go with the quad.

Better would be the E8400... its an overclocking beast... and with decent cooling and a good motherboard, it could touch 4.0...stable..
it costs almost as much as the q6600...
the E8400 is based on 45nm tech while the q6600 is 65nm... so more heat....
but the q6600 will help you down the line when most games become quad optimized....*i heard valve is already halfway thru their first quad core game*...
but if u upgrade every half year E8400s the way to go...
Q series prices are dropping cos of the nehalem so prices of the core 2 quad will be rock bottom by feb...
wait out a bit and get a Q9450 if u don want the i7(like i'm doin now)...or get an E8400 which will perform better with todays games(though the gpu is the limiting factor)

Interesting...unfortunatly I'm not sure many can refer to their system as the *beast(Lucky)...I can't put an E8-anything (http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.as...ual-VSTA&s=775) in my mobo. Sounds like to extend the length of my current setup the longest would be to add a q6000. Probaly have a negligible overall system improvement in the near term...say 3-6months, but as the end of 2009 comes I might still be able to squeak by w/ the addition of a q6000 as oppose to being at my limits w/ an e7300.

I could understand if you were comparing an E8x00 to a Q6600; that's a difficult choice. But an E7300? Get the quad.

If you were comparing E8400 and q6600 then that would make sense,
but otherwise, go Q6600 if you have the money

However for gaming the e7200 will probably do better since games only use 2 cores and 45nm is a lot easier to overclock than 65nm (q6600).

E7200 Can hit 3.6Ghz on Air while on the q6600 you might just hit 2.8

Eh? Even the worst Q6600 G0 should hit 3.4 on air. And even if your old games don't use 4 cores, you'll still gain because all your background processes won't be contending for those 2 cores you're gaming on.
