[GeForce]GTX295 Crysis Performance

Benchmark Results: Crysis

Our software contribution to this preview is Crysis running at 64-bit—still one of the most demanding games on the market. In all but one case, the GTX 295 is able to edge out AMD’s Radeon HD 4870 X2. At 2560x1600 with antialiasing (AA) and anisotropic filtering (AF) enabled, Nvidia admits that its beta driver has a bug affecting performance.

Interestingly, the 512 MB Radeon HD 4870 has come a long way and is able to hang close to the GTX 280 without AA or AF turned on. Flip on the eye candy, though, and you see the card’s half-sized frame buffer hammer its performance.

Be nice to see some results at resolutions most people use.

good scaling for SLI. Almost double the performance in most cases. That bug at the super high res really sucks though. At that res who needs AA though.

It's there. The green bars are the 1920x1200 figures, and the blue bars are 2560x1600 figures.

As for AA, well I run at 1920x1080, but sit close to the 37" screen, and I can see plenty of jaggies at that res. Granted, it's more pronounce on a screen that size, with pixels that size (the high PPI on my 1920x1200 notebook makes it crisper), but they are still there.
That is why I would consider a card like this, so I can load up the AA.

Wow, I would have thought it would be better than the 4870X2, but the X2 meets and beats it with AA, imagine if AA and AF were on....

P.S. A single frame is not a win in my book.

Yeah 1 frame rate makes no difference but drivers are not mature yet.

That's more like it. As soon as you crank up the AA the 4870 X2 is still king in the Crysis test and in Call of Duty it's very competitive. Fallout 3 shows practically no difference between GTX 295 and 4870 X2. Far Cry 2 shows little difference in frames. Left for Dead 4 has a more competitive edge for the GTX 295 but otherwise the GTX 295 is nothing stunning or revolutionary.
