It can, but not "legally". Nintendo didnt pay the license fee's to allow DVD playback (which also meant lower prices).. Their logic is most people already have a DVD player, so why have another? Which is very true, but it would be nice if it was included as a first party channel.

My dad notices, but doesn't like HD. Something to do with seeing the pimples and the hairs on the faces or something when watching a game doesn't appeal to him. Idk, i like to see EVERYTHING. So playing COD4 on 1080p was amazing.

ZOMFG!1! ah so wantz anuther DVD playuh to go wit mah oder 300 DVD playerz!!1!!1

But anyways, yes. It's called progress. Nintendo is recognizing what the consumer wants and what we already have. A video distribution service is a step in the correct direction. They need to work on the Wii's internet capabilities and the browser. Also need to work on a method of external storage.

EDIT: Wow, that acronym didn't get censored...

I'm thinking that since it's been happening already, Nintendo would get with the program, but obviously by they're 10 good games, lacking online experience and even no DVD playback, they haven't. I don't care if people don't agree with me, i'm speaking the truth.

Only good Wii games worth looking at.

1.Brawl
2.Mario Kart
3. RE Wii
4. Galaxy
5. Zelda
6. Mario Party
7.Metroid
8. S.Paper Mario
9. Mario Strikers
10. and of course what comes with it, Wii Sports.

Look, I'm not fanboying to either Wii 360 or PS3, but come on, for 250 you get a Wii, SD gaming, no dvd support. for 200, you could get a 360, tons more better games, Netflix and more. 400 bucks gets you one of the best BluRay Players, great movies/games and pretty much the same as 360. Come on.

Nintendo is now progressing, but Sony and Microsoft were already there.

if i could describe nintendo's interest in bettering their console, i would describe it as: LAZY.

the wii needs 2 simple firmware updates:

1: Stop the wii from rebooting between channels
2: Allow direct reading/writing from the SD card slot

And as a software update:

3: include the latest version of flash in its browser
4: Include Sub-Channels for VC games so that each one does not take up a channel.

If nintendo wanted to, they could make the Wii experience much more streamlined

Also, it should be technically possible to cache some of the Wii store onto the console itself.....i mean, the store layout wouldn't need to be re-loaded each page change...

/rant

but nintendo is too content making millions and riding the DS/Wii success

I personally don't like it cause it's so kiddy looking...I mean, i've been a PC gamer for a long time, i'm used to great visuals with good gameplay when I play a game like CoD4 or GRiD, but when I play a game like CoDWaW on Wii and then remember what the PC version ran and looked like, why should I have to sacrifice visuals for gameplay? With 360/PS3, I can get both. I currently just got a 360 so I could play Rock Band 2 and Skate 2 when it comes out and i'm loving Rock Band 2. The Wii version just came out and I heard it's a gimped version of the PS3/360 ones...Why go through the gimping when the higher end versions could cost less?
