So I turn on my other laptop, it boots fine and everything but it chugs away trying to get to the desktop with start taskbar in windows xp. Ctrl + alt + del works but idk how to fix it to get it working again. what could be the problem?

im not quite sure what you are saying. it loads but its slow?

boot it up. hold ctrl and hit r. then type msconfig. select diagnostic start up and reboot. see if that helps just as a starter.
