Which one would you get? I'm pretty sure I could put a 1GB stick of ram in the Acer. It doesn't have bluetooth, but the Toshi does.

I'm just weary. My parrents know nothing about computers. Mom asked me which one I'd get for my dad (who can barely type, and all he does is browse the web and check emails, he doesn't need a fast computer)
and I said either the Toshiba (different one) or an Acer.

I would not get either but if I must I would get the Toshiba. I only looked at CPU and as my last was AMD I know they run hot and Intel has the advantage overall.

Neither is a gamer. The 4500 is newer so I don't know much about it's gaming. I do know the 3100 was a capable card that never reached it's potential (bad drivers) and the ATI and Nvidia IGP's gamed better.

What is the cost of these? If you want to game discrete GPU is the way to go. IGP you can play some older games OK but they just lack the power. Good luck.

The Acer was under $1000. but with rebates its 599 or something
The toshiba is 799 I think.

I hate when my family buys me computer gear. Don't want to get stuck with something I dont want.
I heard Acer was junk so..

At Dell outlet, I got an XPS M1530 with the following specs for $709. It comes with a standard 1 year, plus an extended 2nd year warranty:
Quote:
T8300 2.4GHz 3Mb L2 cache 45nm Penryn (45nm runs cool)
Vista 64 Home Premium
WXGA+ 1440x900 screen
2x2Gb DDR2 ram
320Gb WD Scorpio Blue (5400) HDD
Wireless N
2.0 MP camera
DVD +- RW
Media remote control
NVIDIA 8600M GT (I checked and mine is the new revision.. not affected by bad substrate)
I think you can find a comparable laptop for under $1000 that will out perform the Acer or Toshiba. It is a great laptop IMO.

Acer used to be considered junk. I believe they have improved build quality and are now average. If you have the money let me recommend the Sager NP2096 as it has a 9600m GT for $777, it does not have OS at this price but well add $97 and you can game. Link.

Edit: And as mentioned above DeLL outlet is a good place to go. Sadly most the stores sell junk (weak GPU's).

Guys, what I'd like to be able to do, is maybe run some games, and run programs like Adobe Photoshop, 3D Studio Max, etc.
I'm not sure though. I don't really need to, I mainly use the laptop I got now (not the Acer) for stuff like checking bank records, email, browsing the web.. but I'd like to be able to do more with it.
