I went and took the laptop back today.

I see this laptop on sale for $999.

What do you guys think of it?
are the Core 2 Duos the X86 + x64? like the Core 2 Quad? (could I run x64 on it?)

All Core 2 are 64bit. That notebook looks good w/blueray and all if you plan on watching HD movies. I doubt it burns blueray, reader only. Also if vertical resolution is under 1080 will not be able to take full advantage of HD unless external monitor is used. If you won't be doing HD better out there. Better GPU I mean.

Good Luck!

No won't be doing HD. I want something I can run games on and such, run Photoshop, 3D Studio. etc.
I think it'd be okay, but can I get better for the price?

I currently have a Toshiba with dedicated graphics. I must say I like dedicated a lot better than integrated(shared.) I also know that my Toshiba isn't upgradable to 8gb of memory though...I had a HP with integrated graphics and it absolutely sucked.(Couldn't even run some of the less demanding games without horrible FPS lag.) It had 3 gigs of RAM too...I think the Acer could run higher quality games than the Toshiba though.(If that's what you want it for.)

Well Asus (better brand) better CPU, 1066Mhz FSB. Same GPU 9600m GS not that bad I got confused w/8600m GS, can game on that. Best thing? $750 at BB, link.

A little more but worth it and remember OS is extra. Sager NP2096 9600m GT starts at $778, link. $965 w/OS and P8400 2.26Ghz CPU.

Asus NV50VN oh and this does have an OS and a 9650m GT better for gaming, link.

I think the BB is the best value, I like 14 better than 15.4. And as I said the 9600m GS will game. It is the same class card as mine and yes I tweak mine but you can also. I get around 45fps avg CoD4 all settings set to the highest. I can play Crysis on medium at about 20fps.

Good Luck!

Hmm.
You are correct I got that from a thread here. The price may of changed. That does make the Sager even more tempting. Sorry about that miss info. Are you working with a budget? I ask because every dollar adds more. The links to Xoticpc? That is a place to get major value/performance. PowerNotebooks is also a very good place it is the same value/quality as Xotic. How much of a gaming system do you want?

Xotic does ship anywhere PNB I think not. $1000 was what I was afraid of and Canada warranty from Xotic not so great for Canada. Give me a moment to have a look see. Do you maybe live on the border? Toronto/Buffalo, Windsor/Detroit? Newfoundland/North Pole (Santa).
