Most quality CPU blocks will come from the factory with a very nice finish, and lapping is generally not necessary (please ignore that I lapped mine ~ long story )

I realize that it may be a pita, but I would try the block as it is, and if you find that it needs some tuning, then take the sandpaper to it
Well I am inclined to just try it as is.......it is alot easier to replace a cpu under water than with a HSF.

My E8600 is concave on one half and convex on the other. leaves a pretty big gap for the thermal paste to go. My GTZ was very flat. I think they also advertise them being machine lapped, which is also better than what anyone could do with sand paper.

Here are my results with an E8600 with a GTZ, Feser 360 rad, and MCP655.

I think you guys have it mixed up a bit. I thought the point of lapping the cpu was to expose the copper underneath which is a much better at transferring heat.

I lapped mine before I WCed it.

Takes some time to do it but it was worth it. I started from 400grit to 1200grit then finished off with 2000grit. nice and shiny.

No, lapping is done to create a flat surface.

Guys I still think I am gonna do the razer test on each of them. Chances are, the GTZ will be flat, and the Q6600 will need to be lapped.
