2GB, 4GB or 8GB - G.Skill or Corsair?? ($25 for 4GB Crosair DDR2 800)

Thread Starter
I want to upgrade my sig system with some more memory.

Right now I have one kit (2GB) of:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231098

But I think I am going to buy at least one kit (4GB) of:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145184

I am running xp on this system. Should I just buy one kit and have 4GB or should I get 2 kits and have a total of 8GB? How much of a difference is it going to make. Each kit is only $25 after a rebate.

2GB is plenty for XP, and if you're not running XP 64-bit, then the other RAM will be wasted. 4GB will be okay (only like 3.25GB or so will be usable, though), but 8GB is a definite no.

Are you planning to upgrade your OS? Unless you are running XP x64, XP 32bit can only support a maximum of 4gb ram.

I say just get a 2x2GB set. Either G.Skill or Corsair, both are reputable.

That's like an infinity loop quandary.

LOL

You need 8GBs of RAM to run Vista, and you need Vista to be able to use 8GBs of RAM.
