Means nothing to me, is it an HP, Dell ?

Anyway that is beside the point, oem recovery disks require a hidden partition on the hdd to reinstall the os (and associated bloatware that the vendor wants you to install) along with the motherboard drivers etc.

You may be able to fluke it and install XP but I very much doubt it, you'll need a real XP disk as opposed to a Recovery disk imo.

Ok the setup finished but now theres another problem. I restarted the computer and now it says this.

Windows could not start because this file was missing or dammaged.

Root/windows/system32/hal.dll ........ Any clues ?

Do you have access to another pc you can copy the file from and then boot using something like Ubuntu Live CD or BartPE and insert the file into the system32 folder?

I'm guessing though that you'll probably get a different error once you have fixed this one.

As I said earlier, you really need a full XP disk not a recovery disk

Apparently, who ever you bought the computer from gave you a bad disc, which isnt working
