FYI. Im new. first time doing this.

I just purchased an ASRock 4CoreDual SATA2 LGA 775 VIA PT880 Pro/PT880 Ultra ATX Intel Motherboard. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157115

and..

An Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115018

Installed everything to the best of my ability and the computer wont start when i press the power button. Nothing at all. I followed the directions but there were 2 cords that I couldnt find pins for. here they are..

cause pc to not start?

cause pc to not start?

I also took my little "jumper" off my old mobo and put it here...

My RAM is pc3200 so I believe thats not a problem. Im pretty sure i put them in the right slots.

Edit. I also didnt use the new IDE cables that came with the mobo. Used the old bent ass crusty ones.

You only put the Jumper there to CLR Cmos take it back off as the Borad wont boot with it on, and the other plugs in pic 1 look like there for your usb header at bottom of borad check your manual for correct pin locations
the second pic shows the connections for Audio out and they go on the AC97 header are usually located near the PCIe slot again check your manual

OK i took my cmos jumper off. but the manual doesnt say anything about the ac97 header. and i checked the manual for the audio pin locations. They dont really match. I either have to do some guesswork or I can post a picture of the manual page and a picture of the pins its supposed to go into.

The USB and audio pins have nothing to do with your system starting up. Do you have the pins that run to the power button hooked up correctly? Can't think of the technical name.

Consult your manual. Its gives you the exact pin-out for each one, and those are the USB connectors, not the correct area for what you need to plug 5v and others into. Those are the black connectors near the SATA ports and IDE channels. The manual will give you the areas to place those.

It booted

ok ok . There seems to be a problem in that area. The Power SW( power switch) plug wasnt hooked up to the right area. but the reset sw, led, and some other plug are supposed to go all into the same area. but there is a pin missing or something. I cant put them all there!

Ok next problem. It boots. I hit F2 to load boot menu. I load defaults and it boots, flashes windows for 1 second then reboots. Again. My CMOS jumper is off completely. Could this be the new problem? or because my reset plug is not connected to the proper pin? Or none of the above?

So you can access the BIOS? Make sure your memory voltage is set correctly, I've seen that do some weird things.

All I did was put the disc in. I can ascess the setup screen by pressing F2. Memory frequency is set at Auto if thats what you mean. I set it to the lowest voltage to see what it did. no change. I reset it back to defaults.

There will be couple pins still available, that you don't need to worry about. As long as you put all the pins the corresponding areas you should be fine. What pin is it that you have left over?
