I have tried to share the way instructed, in the sharing menu add the folders and the user’s permissions to that folder. It seems random, one minute I can see the folder and it asks for a password, other times I can click the folder and see the files but not access them.

That should be it. Right-click, under Permissions set it to be accessible to everyone (each user group listed should be set to "Read and Write") and apply to contents. If I recall correctly, when downloading the Linux version of F@H, the permissions are locked to regular users. I guess it applies to the OSX version as well, so to share it, you will need to change the permissions.

If someone knows the terminal command that changes permissions for RW for everyone, that would help, making this a 1-shot deal.

I have changed the permissions for the everyone group to RW, still can’t do ant thing; I can see the files in the folder but cannot access them? Is so strange, from the Mac I can access any folder on the vista machine, so there is no firewall setting that is incorrect.

If anyone has any ideas would be great?

In the Sys Prefs panel under Sharing under "File Sharing" under "Users," your username is set to Read & Write, right? That's my last idea...

that guide worked perfectly for me. i share my files like movies and documents between my pc and macbook pro all the time, so this should work fine for you.
