Wide Screen for gaming - Page 4

Where are you going to be shopping for the lcd/gpu? Country would be nice to know so we maybe can get to the stores you will be shopping at.

And for a gpu I would suggest any of the 9600gt cards. Both evga and bfg have a stepup program where you pay the difference between anything you buy now and a better gpu later, but usually within 3 months. I got evga cards and just paid for my 1st stepup from a 9600gt to a 9800gtx+. My total cost will be $153 CAN which includes shipping both ways. Not to bad of a deal considering I can buy the gtx+ here for around $250

Im in the UK so newegg and such are out.

As for the GPU the new monitor would be used with a new rig I plan to purchase which should contain a 4850. Which im hoping should be able to handle it all right

The EVGA 9800 GTX+, P/N 512-P3-N879 is pretty cheap right now. That's the one I have, and it's pretty awesome for me. I went from an 8600 GT to this, and all I can say is "WHOA!".

The only thing I don't like about it is the automatic HybridPower. Because my mobo doesn't support HybridPower, I have no control over it. When there's not enough demand, it underclocks itself to 300/600, but the memory isn't underclocked. When the demand increases to a certain point, it jumps up to where I have it overclocked (or stock if it's at stock). This can be annoying for the first two seconds of gameplay after loading a saved game or whatever, but it's worth it.

Here's a link to the product page at Newegg for a really good look at it: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...pk=512-P3-N879

I love to use Newegg like that. hehe

But always search for it in something like Google Shopping before making a final purchase. Newegg is indeed awesome, but they're not always the lowest.

Oops, you're in the UK. My fault. But I'll leave this up just in case somebody may benefit from it.

Hiya Isileth,

Well I didn't know one brand from the next for lcd monitors so I picked the best price I could get here where I live. The 2253lw was on sale for 45 less than what it was originally. When I was at the store it looked BIG to me but I was still using a 17" crt. I would get another Samsung and the one you listed look really nice, the rounding on the bottom looks good too. It's got the same base that mine has. I don't know what my viewing angle is but it hardly matters to me as I am the only person who uses this system and it is directly in front of me. But you might want to raise any monitor up a few inches to make it easier on the eye. My Samsung is gloss black and fits with my antec 900, my keyboard and my speakers...so it was an easy choice for me. You just get the one that looks the best to you, you'll be looking at it for a few years, maybe.

I should point out that Samsung isn't the one pictured. Its actually a standard flat rectangle. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA280_.jpg

Really all I want to make sure is there isn't a clear leader or some that just don't cut it. The small differences are going to be fairly minor in a jump from a 15" to a 22" wide screen.

I see you've chosen to go with widescreen anyway, but for the record, this website lists the supported resolutions and type of widescreen support in games.

I have the first of those in black and it's amazing IMO. I go back and use the 19" widescreen in our "main" computer room and it's so small compared to this 22".
