A reduction in die size gives no performance boost at all, in and of itself.

However, it makes higher stock clocks viable, and performance is almost directly proportional to clock speed.

It should be compared to the SuperSuperclocked GTX280.

I think he means that you have to take into account that the GTX280 can overclock as well, bringing it out of range of the 216sp.

But this is still an awesome card. Hard to choose between this, the 285, or 295 for my trade-up.
