I have this 5-6 year old computer and am getting tired of not being able to play games with decent frame rates. (specs in sig.) So, since I got money for christmas I decided its time for a new computer. Just wanted to know what you guys thought about this for a light gaming/every day use computer, I will buy a decent GPU later, but right now do not have the money.

Will be using Windows XP Pro Version 2008 SP3 and playing games like Half Life 2.

Keep in mind this is the base system, and I will upgrade as I get money. (have a girlfriend I have to spend money on too... lol) Please tell me what you think, in terms of overclock ability, system stability, etc.

i'd recommand this CPU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103300

Also, since you can only hold 2 ram slots, you'd be better off going with 2x2GB. else you'll have to buy these anyway later and that would make the 2x512MB a waste.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820134641.
its about double the price but you get 3GB more ram.

I'm not sure about the mobo & cooling. I think its an ok choise if your planning to run this stuff on stock settings. If your planning to OC your mobo & cooling might have to be replaced with something else, and probably more $$ to.

Hard drive seems ok tho.
The costs will probably increase by another 70$ or so, but its worth it imo.

Oh and, it would be nice if you could add some kind of budget.
I concluded your not really aiming for a high end rig, but you could improve stuff if the budget allows it.

Good choices, already ordered though, honestly its pry only gonna be a every day use computer, maybe gaming for about an hour every couple days. I only had about $150 to spend, so it was a REALLY tight budget I will upgrade the ram and some other things later, I wont lose that much money, I know people I can sell the stuff to for about the same price I bought it for... all in all, its only gonna see little use as a gaming rig, so thats not a big deal for me, basic email, Miranda messaging, and youtube. Maybe some slight overclocking...

In that case its decent enough.

But yeah, keep an eye out on that cpu. I think it's the best AMD dual core out there right now. and its dirty cheap to if you ask me.

Anyone else want to say anything? please comment on my first build. any suggestions on what to do/not to do while putting it together, etc? Also, I am trying to decide which os to use Xp pro 32 bit or 64 bit. Or Vista 32 or 64. Specs are below.

Don't go XP 64, the support/drivers are crap. If you want 64bit go Vista.

IF you already ordered before anybody gave you opinions or suggestions i dont know why you posted this thread.

For the OS youre stuck with XP Prox86 cause you only got 1GB ram. About you build you could have bought components you could actually keep e.g. the RAM.

I guess there probably was a better way to word it but this was not a "should i buy this" post it was a "what is your oppinion on this build" and, if i could i would of got better components, I had $150 to spend, not even a cent more... i was lucky to have that much money, i have a single parent on disability, and the state doesnt give you much money... i can sell the ram to friends for the same price i bought it for, same with the cpu... i just bought this stuff to get me away from my current system and into a more recent build.
