Weird Windows Problem

Thread Starter
Ok so i have this really weird problem in windows XP where my computer will freeze for like 5 minutes if i try to delete something or even if i just try to use the windows interface like copying something or even trying to open up properties from the desktop. i dont understand it, ive run multiple virus scans and tried to defrag the harddrive. i dont know if its my motherboard or the hard drive or maybe just my copy of windows has gotten corrupted. if there is anyone that has heard or had this problem it would be a great help. also is there any program or anything where i can load the windows xp original dlls from the setup without reformating the harddrive? thanks alot also my specs are in my signature

Step 1: Download G-Parted and burn the ISO file to disc.
Step 2: Boot from the disc and make a new partition on the HDD
Step 3: Install windows XP onto the secondary partition and see if the problem ensues.
If it works you know it's just the Windows being corrupted, if not its a hardware problem

From experience, i would guess at a dead or dying cd/dvd drive, if a drive is slow and cannot be accesssed very quickly, it will cause everything to slow down or stop until the slow drive is ready. My old pioneer dvd drive did this to me, to the point where it couldnt be accesssed at all and would crash explorer completely.

If its possible for you to open up your case and unplug any dvd/cd drives you have one at a time, then reboot, and plug them back in, just to rule them out.
