No signal after boot up

Thread Starter
I have an old hp computer. When I boot it up, everything goes fine, get the bios page, the hp page, and the xp load bar. After that when my computer suppost to go to accounts page. I get the no signal from my monitor. I am able to get in when I do it in safe mode, but other than that it loses signal at the accounts page. What can cause this? How can I fix it?

Something may be corrupted in the boot sequence. Boot from OS CD and choose "Repair" (you won't loose anything on HD) and hopefully it will fix whatever is wrong with OS that is preventing you from getting into Windows.

If that does not work, then maybe the video drivers need a uninstall/reinstall from the safe mode.

Also check PSU to see if it is still giving you right amount of power with a volt meter.

My bet is that it is some form of OS corruption or driver conflit/error that is preventing normal operation since you can get into Windows in safe mode. Worst case scenario, is you might have to reformat and reinstall Windows.

Uninstall the video drivers first in Safe Mode. Don't reinstall them yet.

Then reboot and try logging into Windows normally. If the problem persists, then more-than-likely, it is your video card that needs to be replaced.

If it does work, then install the latest graphics card drivers for your particular chipset. Reboot again.
