Dimensions of a standard CD/DVD drive? - Page 2

I know the thread is a bit old, but here's the sketch of the DVD drive with dimensions if anyone ever needs it. Do note that length of the drive can differ from manufacturer to manufacturer.

Here's an ancient spec sheet ftp://ftp.seagate.com/pub/sff/SFF-8500.PDF

146mm or 5.78" wide

41.5mm or 1.634" high

And I know for a fact that drives vary from MFR to MFR despite their being something of an industry standard.

And cases vary too. The exact size of the bezel for an empty bay can vary a fair amount from case to case, which may account for why most drives have at least a 1/16" gap all around the face plate.

does no one use xx/xx" anymore ? as far as i know, rulers and most graphic programs still use xx/xx"
