Disable Defrag in XP?

Thread Starter
Does anyone know how to disable defragging in XP? I am running a SSD on my netbook and defrag does nothing except wear out the drive.
Once again...

What do you mean disable it? Just dont run it. Defragging wears out your SSD.

I know... that's why I want to disable it.

Hmmmm... Better question, does XP perform automatic defragging? I know Vista does.

In XP it will not defragment by itself. Unless you have it set to automatically do so. im almost 100% positive that it isnt set to do it with a fresh install. you will be fine as long as you dont make it defrag.

XP (Both professional and home) doesn't auto-defrag for me

XP does not have automatic defragging like Vista.

Though, maybe turning off some of the indexing services will help lengthen the lifespan of the SSD.

as far as I dont xp doesnt defrag like vista does.

At system idle, is your hdd light very active? If so then I suppose I could be wrong...

As a follow up to GH0s post.. indexing is what makes xp/vista so quick.. im not sure its worth it to disable that.. but thats just me.. *I* would leave indexing on.

I don't really need Indexing, I don't find that much of a speed difference with it. So, I usually disable it.
