Q9650 Club - Page 121

Can someone be so kind and tell me how to overclock my processor, I really want to learn this, and I see people giving very brief information, while I know that overclocking needs many variables to be changed in the processor and motherboard like voltages and timings and so.

I have Q9650 and P5N32-e SLi Asus nForce 680i motherboard, 8 GB DDR2 800 RAM.

Please tell me everything I need to change.

Thanks

i hope your ram can overclock well if you are going for 4ghz.. running at 1:1 will make the ram run over 800mhz

Pal (runcmd3), you're using a language I don't understand, why don't you be nicer and pay some effort explaining those terms you're talking about? The only part I understood is that I want to overclock to 4 GHz, that's true, that's what I'm aiming to.

lol ok man. i was just saying.. we'll figure that part out later. but first try raising the value of FSB in the bios a little bit.. and then try restarting and running prime 95 blend test.. get cpu-z to check your clocks and voltages
edit: if you didnt understand any of that just ask
post #1205 of 1931
I have 2 choices for FSB increment, Linked and Unlinked, and It's set by default to 1333, how much should I raise it? and please tell me how danger is what I may change, I don't wanna destroy my processor!

And what is prime 95? I have CPU-Z.

Thank you

can you take a screenshot of your bios? i have never OCed on that board.. and you mean 333FSB right? because this is how it works FSBxMulti=CPU Speed... so in your case you have a max multi of 9 which is default. 333x9=3000Mhz. raising the FSB to 350 would give you 3150Mhz.. and you wont destroy the chip if youre not increasing the voltages yet so set them all to defaults instead of auto

Thanks pal for your care, at this link you can find the screen shots

Please give me the details to change, 1 by 1 , I'm still new to this

In FSB and memory config I changed Clock mode to linked, and set FSB to 2000, when I rebooted the computer the bios said that I have 4.5 GHz speed, but CPU-Z is yet saying 3 GHz

the p5n32-e sli does not officially support 45 quads...not even with a bios flash....just 45 dual core...it does support 65 quads.....just an FYI.....good luck, maybe it will work fine...

first you should set those voltages to their default values. it looks like auto means that it is default vid. i would set it manually to your bios vid. check the forums for a thread dedicated to your mobo. they can probably provide more help
