I think it will become slower yet as Sandy Bridge gains a foothold.

As for me, I'll keep my Q9650 for awhile longer. Nothing yet I need doing that it can't do.

I might wait until Ivy Bridge. At that point, Intel is supposed to finally add USB 3.0 support to their chipsets, and hopefully Light Peak will be available. They will probably increase the number of SATA-6 ports available too (Intel's Sandy Bridge mainboards currently seem to have two SATA-6 ports, and the rest are SATA-3).

If DDR3 keeps dropping, I might cave and get some in advance, hedging my bets against prices going up. Sandy Bridge looks good, but its underlying support will get better with second-gen mainboards.

Exactly, second gen should show vast improvements and the biggest selling point for Sandy is the high clocks with low temps on air.
I can only guess that they will continue to improve the chips as well.

Dang, that chip needs a cold shower. Nice clocks though Val!

That temp is OK for Vcore 1.33V / 4.3GHz and IBT on your Vendetta2..

Whad would you expect??

And Q9650 usually runs a bit hotter than Q9550 E0..

My Q9550 @ 3.9GHz and 1.30V (LOAD) in IBT 20 runs hits 70C on hottest core all on CM Hyper 212 rev.1 cooler..

CHEERS..
