The 55nm GTX 260 216 Overclock Thread - Page 61

Ok heres an update. I lowered my clocks a bit and the temperatures still reached roughly 62-63C. Yet it didnt artifact or anything at all. Something weird is going on here.

And I did get an SC? Wow, I didn't know that, I guess EVGA ****ed up somewhere, oh well, my benefit

Drivers are 181.22

My current clocks are: 670/1444/1125

Reaches same temperatures as the 700/1509/1151 clocks yet it doesn't crap out on me. Somethings very wrong here.

I have no idea either. You and I are in the same boat, I am around the same clocks as you are now. I am not at home so I can check exactly what my numbers are at the moment.

I bumped my voltage to 1.18v and the temps jumped 3C, and didnt stabilze it any more at all. So i dropped it back down to 1.12 and I was back to square one.

Here is what I dont get, I run ATItool and it artifacts out and runs around 53C. I played TF2 for a few hours and it never went over 49C. Then I quit the game, and ran ATI tool again for the hell of it, now the load temps are 51C (2C less) AND the ambiant temp was 1C higher then it was 4 hours ago? NO ARTIFACTS FOR 40mins then I went to bed.

It just isnt consistant. And I swear after the card "burns in" for a while it is more stable.

I really think the temps are the key. everyone seems to have their cards effected differently by different temps.

I looked at that Artic Cooling GTX thing, but it looks like a VERY tight fit if I want to SLI. I am not kicking around the idea of taking the case off the card, and making my own shroud and a better fan unit.

EDIT* Anyone think about how the north/south bridge chips effect the OC on these cards? If I remember correctly the northbridge controlls the clocks for the PCI-e.

Highest I can get is 710 on the core. 711 and I get artifacts no matter what speed the fan is at. I've been running ATI Tool for 20 minutes now and it's not gone above 54C. Fan speed at 70%. Is that any good? I've only just built the computer, plus I'm a newbie to overclocking.

turn up your fan, in a game with a headset or speakers you cant tell me that you can hear the card at 100% over the action in the game!

dont feel bad, becasue i cant touch the OC you are at yet... and I have a true vanilla card.
On that note I guess I got a SC card packaged as a vanilla as well...

I'd be surprised if it effected anything. the PCIE clock not relivant in GPU overclocking. the graphics card isn't going to request data faster then the PCIE bus can handle no matter how high clocked it is.

well it was worth a shot Grandlo.

I just finished lapping my cpu and cooler and swaping the stock Xigmatek 120mm for an Ultra Kaze. Went from 38c/65c @ 22C ambient to 32C/58C @ 22C ambient while running OCCT for 10 min tests.

I also swapped the stock Lian Li exhaust fan for another Ultra Kaze, and added the 3rd Ultra Kaze in a secret location. These two fans are only running at 2000 rpm. (max is 3,xxx). I dropped my Mcp from 64C to 52C and MY GPU TEMP FROM 65C MAX TO 44C MAX!!!!! While running atitool for artifacts!

thats should help!

Just a question regarding overclocking. What makes the big difference in performance in benchmarking/games? Core, Shader or Memory Clock?

Because with my overclock at the moment if I bump the core/shader both up one notch on evga precision I get no artifacts in ATi Tool but 3dmark06 locks up and restarts my comp. Same with bumping the memory up to 1101MHz.

Core & shader make the most difference in gaming / benchmarks. Memory is little to no gains at all in my experience.

Ok what would be a so called "bottleneck" with overclocking the GPU? Like say if you decrease the shader will that able you to clock the core higher? Or lowering the memory clock will allow more shader/core? Even tho my memory clock is low at the moment, but above stock.
