I owned both. I hade a EVGA 65nm SSC, and then bought a 55nm Vanilla. Reason I did so was I sold the entire machine i built with the 65, and figured i would save the 30$ or so and get the base and oc it myself.
Prior machine. E6850 @ 3.4ghz, asus p5n32-sli, 2gb DDR2-800 Dominator 65nm 260 SSC running 712/1532/1026. best 3dmark was 15,648.
My current rig: see sig, completely out of the box, installed windows xp and ran 3dmark06. scored 14,895. So, lost 753 pts. but then I was .1ghz CPU slower and the vid card was down clocked. On my new rig, I saved the "to excel" results after i ran 3dmark, I can find the one where I hit ssc clocks with 3.4ghz cpu and see what I scored.
My general impression is the 55nm runs a touch cooler, but seems to be a bit pickie-er to overclock in some ways. But I am very happy with it now that I have great airflow towards the card, just by doing that, pushed my clocks alot farther than before.
Now that I think of it, I could clock my cpu the same and down clock my memory and set the 55nm to the same clocks I hit on the 65 and see how it scores.
