The 55nm GTX 260 216 Overclock Thread - Page 74

have you tried running ATITool or FurMark when it goes down to 399?

400 is one of the GPU core's lower clocks when it's idling, and 300 is the lowest...could be that

yes it's running furmark I run it so clocks are at 3d performance then make the adjustments. I'll try the ATI tool - rivatune is no good either I doubt ATI will work it seems as if after it does this it stops any software changing the clock speed - also why has it dropped to an idle speed? That just seems wrong...

When I overclock the GPU after a while the core speed drops to 399 and there's nothing I can do to increase it without rebooting... what's going on?

Also is there another program to O/C it than riva tuner? It seems very flaky but the above problem occurs with riva (when it works) and the Nvidia control panel O/C section.

thanks

First of all, do not use the nvidia control panel overclocking, it is complete fail.

Rivatuner is great so I don't know why it is giving you trouble, try EVGA Precision instead, it's basicaly a simplified version of RivaTuner.

As for the your clocks lowering, like baz said, it's normal. When your GPU isn't doing anything stressful it down clocks itself to either low power 3D or standard 2D to save power.

Hm from your last post it sounds like you were trying to overclock while running Furmark at the same time so your clocks are at 3D performance mode, bad idea if I understood that correctly.

When you tried overclocking in RivaTuner did you select performance 3D from here?

GPUz Validation

im still "trying" to play with it, but anything higher on any slider results in artifacts.

i have the XFX GTX 260 Core edition, the cooler is a piece of junk. being the "budget" core edition, its still vanilla.

stock clocks:

Core - 576
Shader - 1242
Mem - 1000

OClocks:

Core - 744
Shader - 1604
Mem - 1197

High3D voltage - 1.12
3D voltage - 1.06
2D voltage - 1.05

Bios - 62.00.4C.00.02 via NiBiTor

Yes I am only changing 3d performance settings - it's odd that I'm the only person to have this type of issue in rivatuner it sounds like - do you all get a message when you start Rivatuner that it is not tested with the driver or something like that? I'm using 182.5 would have thought it's OK.... Maybe having 32bit windows XP has something to do with it, I bet you are all running 64 bit?
The GPU is definatately throttling back while running 3d apps like furmark so should be at full speed 621mhz or more.....

Yep I get that message too when first starting RivaTuner, I'm also using the 182.50's and havn't had any problems with them so far, when I did have my 260 though sometimes it would stick in 2D mode randomly, I just forced 3D mode constantly through RivaTuner. I don't think XP is the problem either btw.

What's the latest version of ATI Tool 0.26? That seems to be from 2007...

Also I guess it has linked core and shaders? (no adjustment for shaders possible)

ATI Tool does the same - set core to 700mhz OK set to 750 without testing it in 3d yet and core goes to the 2d value this time 316.... I can increase the 2d setting which then increases the core again but this would not allow it to throttle back in 2D at all...

I may try reloading the Nvidia drivers....

3D performance value...

I would only use ATITool to scan for artifacts/errors, not to OC with. I would use Rivatuner or Precision for OC'ing.
