The 55nm GTX 260 216 Overclock Thread - Page 92

Well after looking at those screen shots again, I realize why the card is down clocking. Those shader speeds are the problem, it's a safety feature built into the 191.xx drivers to prevent you from damaging the card. I bet that as soon as you hit enter, to accept the settings, the card immediately down clocks.

My 275 started getting artifacts at those clocks. It actually starting showing artifacts at 1944mhz.

Yea, your drivers most likely crash because the overclock isn't stable and therefore the video card is reset to 2d mode clocks.

Thanks for the replies !

So far my card has been running good. The driver hasn't crashed and recovered and i completed the MW2 campaign twice with these settings in 1680x1050 all settings maxed no AA and smooth gameplay. If it where really running in 2d mode wouldnt my games including MW2 run really bad ,isn't it running in 2d mode because i am on the desktop?

Maybe i should benchmark it.I have been out of the benchmark game for quite a while ,wich bench should i use?

msi afterburner/rivatuner/evga precision all have hardware monitoring capabilities for when you OC. if you see the clocks on the graphs when you benchmark significantly lower than what you set, then your card has downclocked.

if it's down to 2d mode it won't crash and recover because the clocks in that mode would be very safe. it might not be 2d, but low 3d mode which is probably about 400mhz on core for this card.

firstly, i don't think mw2 is a good gauge because requirements aren't that high, as with all other cod games. and 1680x1050 isn't as taxing as the other higher resolutions.

you don't really need to benchmark if you don't want to. just make sure that the clocks are running as you set them, when you stress the gpu with a programme like furmark.

It seems you guys where right.I tuned the clocks down and now GPU-Z shows the actual speed i have set for it.Right now i tuned it down to :

core : 688
Shader:1468
mem :1114

This is stable ,i think i will bench and see how far up it will go from here.

MW2 is indeed not THAT taxing but i would have never have thought it would run that wel at those low clocks it was running at.I have also been playing batman AA on these clocks (LOL) and it was also smooth sailing.(also ACI but it wasnt that smooth actuallly,i thought it was the engine,it runs great now btw)

As i said before after reading through this thread i started suspecting that my clocks just didnt sound right and im glad i did.I guess i just had a nice upgrade since i was basicly playing on $90 graphics card for some time now xD.

I wouldn't trust gpu-z for actual clocks, because it just shows requested clocks. Use the graph that comes with precision or rivatuner to see what speed your card is really running at.

BTW, at the speeds that you just listed, your shaders would really be at 1478. Most likely your core and memory are also running at different speeds than what is requested. Use the graph and you'll get a better understanding.

Graphs?

Do you mean this or something else?

I fold on 742/1595/1050 and game on 710/1526/1050. I can game on 725 core, but I'm at 1680x1050 resolution; the max fps allowed in COD4 for TWL is 250, so I get 250 either way. Vantage score at 745/1601/1100.

pardon my lack of knowledge, but what's folding?
