Whats Better GTX 260 SLI vs. GTX 295

Thread Starter
Hey everyone. I know that the official results have not yet dropped for this GTX 295.

Basically I currently have one GTX 260. and I'm thinking of either selling it, and getting the GTX 295, the cheaper idea would be to just buy another GTX 260 since they are getting to the Low $230's or so Now.

So my question is would I be better off getting a second 260 for SLI, or should I sell the one I have now and get the GTX 295. I've never ran SLI, and I'm not formiliar with the Micro-stuttering or any of that stuff. So I wouldn't know what to expect. I've wanted to go SLI for a while. but I'd rather get the 295 so I can upgrade my Mobo one day, since it's the weakest link in my system.

What does everyone think. will the 295 beat the 260 SLI in all area's?? if so I'll get the 295.

Thanks!

I could have answered this in your other thread, but the GTX 295 is similar to a "GTX 270 X2" if that makes sense.

The 295 will have a lower power requirement and hopefully less heat in the end as well as opposed to the 2x260 in sli... just something else to consider. Plus you can always add another 295 in the future if you are feeling really gutsy!

lol.. 2 GTX 295's.. I don't think I'll ever go there.

I know I sort of asked this in the Appraisa. as I was looking for prices on my GTX 260. but I wanted to actually post in the NVIDIA area.

I understand that the 295 is like a mix of the 260, and the 280.. like a 270.. then sandwiched together.. So I guess I'll have to wait til January 8th when the sites around actually release the final info of the Power Consumption, and the heat output. but I have a feeling it will be similar to SLI'd 280's. but slightly lower on Power Consumption, and hopefully less heat. I do know that the reviewer said the fan was nothing near as loud as the 4870x2. but I have loud fans anyways.

OK OK
Basically I'll have to wait and see. I'm wondering if the 295's Performance will be Worth the Extra $100 that I'll have to spend on it, over just getting another 260... thats what I'll have to decide I guess.. as in I can sell my 260 for aorund $200, then spend another 3 and get the 295. or I can keep mine. and spend 200 for another 260.. so I'll have to see if the extra 100 is worth it. I think the overall TAX it puts on my system, and the heat output. I might be better off getting the 295.

How about this:

Get an EVGA 260 now. Wait for more reviews/benchies of the GTX 295. If you still want one, you can step-up your 260 and sell the other one (or something).

get another gtx 260.

I was in this situation, but from the benches that i've seen there is only a couple frames difference, like within 3. It's not worth the difference in price if you already have a 260.

that is normally the sineros with cf/sli card vs x2. usually only a couple fps difference and its usually the cf/sli that wins.

your saying that SLI 260's are only around 3 or 4 fps slower than the 295. I thought it would be more than that.

Zealot, you think SLI'd 260's would produce less heat? I will say my 260 is at 666 MHz Core and it's idle is around 42-48 depending on house temp, and LOAD is 61 or so. I guess thats not bad. thats at 61% fan speed.

Ya I'm going to wait for more reviews before I make my choice. I'll let it actually be released first!
