[Official] Cooler Master ATCS 840 Owners Club - Page 221

Hi! Just got my case. Signed up here because of it. Late adopter I know, but here in Scandinavia everything costs extra. Got a refurbished case for € 150 and that is considered a good deal.

Very happy with the case except for two minor detail, the side top panel sticks out about 3mm while the opposite side does, well...the opposite. The front is not centered. I can live with that I guess. Wish I hadn't noticed but seems like someone in this thread mentioned having the same problem and I just had to check.

Also have a scratch on the side panel. Sending the side panel back will cost more than a new side panel so don't know what to do. Any ideas how to blacken the aluminium so it is less noticeable? The aluminium is like a beacon on the side of the case.

Apart from that I am very happy with my purchase.

Here is a pic of the case straight out of the box. http://imgur.com/snNjr

Aha...img fail...odd...how about this one:

Ok, working now. Thanks Chunky! Got your rep to 666.

Just link to the image with no code if you can't work out the embed.

Edit; ah, gotcha. You just need ".jpg" without quotes at the end of the link, and embed that link as an image.

Added.

I have a lot of plans for the case but have to clean the storage before I start modding it and won't buy any parts before the mods are done. First things I will try is the psu filter mod and maybe cutting a second cable management hole in the mobo tray. Anybody have experience in what to check so I don't screw it up? Seem to remember someone posting about ruining the tray... Can't find the post, have spent a week reading through this thread. =) After those mods I'll ruin the sidepanel (airhole) and then it is powdercoating time. Sleeving and ducting will follow and then soundproofing. THEN I'll buy the components. Wow. Will take forever. =D Especially since there seems to be noone here who can do the powdercoating... =(

How much higher are the temperatures, especially for GPU, compared to a HAF X? Thanks for any idea.

HAF X???? Anyone already got one???
Do you mean comparison with "stock" cooling?
What makes you think there would be a difference?

Yes, stock cooling. The ATCS has fewer fans and some reviewers have commented on the temps being higher than other cases.

That is a fact, that the stock ATCS cooling is -let's be kind- not well thought out.....

Whereas the HAF X is an absolute overkill on graphic card cooling: stock sidepanel 200mm fan, plus optional 120mm fan on the VGA holder -beats me why one needs another a half inch away- plus another on the outside VGA box. nVidia recommending 150cfm fan for this. Holy cow! It's difficult to imagine more airflow being possible..

Of course, no one would stop you installing a sidepanel fan on the ATCS. Other than the style police, I mean.

I've always felt comparing stock cooling is odd. It's a bit like comparing cpu coolers without overclocking the cpu. Doesn't say much at all.

Only time I would compare cases according to stock-cooling is if I really would use only stock cooling. In which case I'd have to ask myself, why buy a top end case at all?

Still, to each his own.

You are absolutely right.
I had researched my HTPC project for over 6 months, wanting to avoid any mod, since I had neither the time nor the skill. The moment I had all the components here I discovered that I will have to do some massive modding. And since I still have no time the project is way overdue, but I have acquired some skills.

Lessons learned: either you buy a finished system like Dell, Asus, etc
or you buy things that you like (like an ATCS) and then mod it to fit your needs.......
