[Official] Cooler Master ATCS 840 Owners Club - Page 280

post #2791 of 4392
As delivery day draws nearer, I've been poring around the internet for more information and ideas about my soon to be delivered (The 11th!) ATCS 840.

One thing I read though that's it's advisable to power down the top fan closest to the front so it doesn't prematurely exhaust hot air. Which is old news but would it also behoove the airflow of my case to maybe use electrical tape (until a more aesthetically pleasing solution can be obtained) to block off the portion of the top vent that serves the front most top fan? I read from another forum-goer that if unblocked the rear most top fan then draws in air from the front portion of the vent which reduces the effectiveness of the exhausting action, if that makes sense. Does anyone else have experience with this?

IN addition, are there any other tips or tricks I should know when moving my rig into the ATCS 840?

Why not flip the front top fan, make it an intake to feed cool air to your heatsink?

@Siegfried262 + ehume

It really depends on what fans you are using if it will make a difference in your temperatures. You need to test for yourself once the case arrives (I know you're excited and can't wait ). For all we know it can be .5C - 3C difference...which may or may not make you feel like changing anything that's already currently setup with the case. For example...look at my teaser setup which I'm sure wouldn't really make a difference on how my fans are oriented. Airflow is pretty much penetrated throughout my case where all three of my GPUs are cooled along with the CPU where the top fans will exhaust any trapped hot air in the case (obviously since hot air rises).

@E-hume, if I flipped the front-most top fan to intake wouldn't it potentially draw in the hot exhaust from the top fan next to it?

@pvp309rcp Holy San Aces Batman! That's a nice fan setup you have there.

It might. That's why I have the rear top fan position blocked off on my case, admittedly not an ATCS.

Do any of you guys know the hole spacing/dimensions of the fan holes on the ATCS 840 stock front and top fans?

Looking at pictures I think it might be a worthwhile mod to replace the front fan of the ATCS 840 I bought used (Comes tomorrow!)

With maybe one of those Silverstone 180mm Air Penetrators?

Even if it couldn't be rigged with the existing space with either velcro or screws, zip ties might be fun for it.

Better off using multiple 120mm fans. Better airflow and if you pick the right fans (I didn't), not noticeably louder either.

It's much easier to put 120mm fans on top by the way... they have brackets for that included with the case.

Part of the master plan actually is two Gentle Typhoons up top but nice picture though and thanks for the clarification.

Having the fans set up with the zip ties though on top of each other do you have any issues with vibration?

I actually just put my hand on the fan frames right now and surprisingly nothing. No vibrations at all. These are 2000 RPM fans as well. Even if there was some vibration (if you didn't zip tie them well enough I guess) the front aluminum plate is pretty thick... drowns out the noise quite a bit.
