I think I asked this some months ago & don't recall an answer. Can airflow from the stock front 230mm (actually 200mm) fan be improved by providing more clearance behind the cover plate?

I guess the real question is if any of these "airflow" improvements imrove temps.

The problem is that there isn't a huge market for 200-230mm fans so finding stronger ones to replace the current ones might not be possible. You're better off modding in some smaller/stronger fans like what I did below as well as others... Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Looks great. Water cooled computers continue to make me jealous with the amount of effort people put in them.

I guess the real question is if any of these "airflow" improvements imrove temps.

I don't think the plate really does anything to improve/obstruct airflow. What actually improves airflow/temperatures is removing the dust filters. From my point of view...CM cleverly put the plate there instead of a regular metal mesh to block off the view of collected dust whereas other cases that have a front mesh shows the dust buildup is clearly viewable. Basically...the only possible (easy) way to get better airflow through the case are stronger fans and/or dust filter removal.

As for me...nothing much has changed with my ATCS 840 except my planning on upgrading to GTX580 Classified cards and getting a USB 3.0 PCI-E card...keeping the lifespan of my build intact.

It's a cold air intake filter that I saw one day when I was at Autozone. I took the Republic of Gamers LED apart and placed it inside the air filter. Now it pulses red when the computer is off and glows steady red when it's on. Check out my link to the build log.

I did this to improve the airflow when I needed it, and it does help.

It worked because you have the fan exhausting, if it was intaking removing the cover wont increase the airflow.

Thanks for following up 7:30. I remember seeing this when you posted months back. Very nice work. It appears you've removed the dust filter too (or was that just for the pics?). But either way, sounds like you improve flow when you "open the hood."
