Do we know this by experiment, calculation or surmise?

If the fan is 200mm dia the area of intake is ~31,000 mm.sq. Say a third is hub, fan blades and struts. 20,000 mm.sq. The plate is about 20x17mm = 74mm perimeter x ~ 4mm clearance = ~300 mm.sq. area. There will be boundary layer friction loss of velocity on each side of that narrow clearance.

If I ever get around to this build I'll have to figure out how to test it.

Old guy, your calculation is a bit off!
The plate is larger than the fan. For argument's sake, let's say 220x220. With a 4mm clearance, this would make it 880x4=3520sq mm.

But all that is fairly irrelevant, since we have to multiply it by speed to arrive at the cubic meters per hour of potential air movement.
Only then can one compare to the spec of the fan and see if the gap limits the air intake or not.

One simple way to check is to hold a light sheet of paper to one side and see how the case temp changes.

Those calculations are too simple and are far from whats pratical, air humidity and room temperature are important when determining airflow.
I would need this kit to give accurate numbers.

I did the face plate for my case, I tested the airflow of the thermaltake 120mm turbo fan with/without the filter and cover with a sheet of paper atached to the fan and the filter behind the fan, only the filter decreased the airflow noticebly.

If someone has a m3/h digital reader I would like to see numbers .

Haze,
that is the only way to test!
Doesn't that thing have a switch to metric?

It has metric and imperial reads, I used to use this for AC ventilation but can cost up to 800 €.

Very nice work Estarlux!

Perhaps you will change some of the 2nd VGA power lines to white, like the first one.

Can you add your system specs in the user controlpanel?

Hello gents. smile.gif

Thought I'd share a few pictures of mine.

Motherboard tray
ExpansionSlotarea.jpg

Finished interior
Opener01.jpg

Right now everything is at stock, even the CPU heat sink. redface.gif But it's a project build featured in the manufacturer's own official blog (I'm a contributor there). OCN's rules forbid me from linking to that blog, or even naming it, but if anybody wants to track this project's progress (it will be overclocked, of course, and the cooling equipment will be upgraded by a couple of stages; I'm also working on a bit of a cosmetic upgrade as well.) just PM me and I'll send you a link. smile.gif

Here's a peek of things to come (eventually):
