So anyone have any idea if CM showed up with a new concept case or anything at CES?

I wish I could say they did but the only big toy I heard anything about was the HAF-XM. I'm beginning to doubt they want the new ATCS on the market at all... or perhaps it's just going through a never-ending cycle of redesigns and revisions, I dunno. If we don't hear anything by this year's COMPUTEX then we can probably assume they've scrapped it.

CM MR HAF, if you read this, can you say anything about this? I'd love to get input from a rep if at all possible.

It seems to me as if they placed the focus on their HAF line as of the past couple years, and much more recently the Cosmos 2. It seems as if the Cosmos 2 has been their ATCS replacement in terms of the enthusiast segment. I personally would like to see a reboot of the ATCS as there are a ton of features that could be implemented to make it that much better than it is now. In terms of cosmetics, the case is already solid.

I wish they would make a new ATCS, and make it bigger. I'd be the first in line, even if I have to force my way through, to buy one thumb.gif I can't wait to start hacking away on this one. I'm going to the Home Depot this week and picking up some acrylic sheets to make my window for the case. It appears to be cheaper than paying 50$ to frozen cpu to buy the parts myself and do it.

And the rest of my PC parts get delivered today and tomorrow!! CANT WAIT!!!!! biggrin.gif

HA! Cases don't come much larger than this, do they? I wish they would do something new as well; the elegant, clean design and aluminum construction is great but this 840 is nearly impossible to come by. I'm planning to hack in a side window too - how do you plan to cut consistent corners?

Good luck with the new build. thumb.gif

An interesting question. As you can see from my sig I wound up with a Gigabyte UD3R MOBO because I couldn't find a UD5 or UD7. I looked at the specs of the UD9 and saw that it has 9 expansion slots (the others all have 7) and a very few cases can accommodate them. the atcs-840 can accommodate an EATX board that is longer front to back but not a taller board top to bottom. And I already owned the 840.

When I was looking at cases there was a double wide Lian-Li server case but I decided the 840 was big enough for my needs. My real needs. I could have invented all sorts of reasons for the bigger one but reality prevailed. Anyway there are a few bigger cases out there. The Gigabyte spec sheet for the UD9 list a few others.

Thanks, the vast majority of my other parts come in tomorrow!! I'll be uploading pictures of the 64gb SSD tonight to my build log. Even got my UPS guy talked into trying to get my other box to me before work. thumb.gif

edit: ref the corners thing. I think im just going to make them a square corner, then bolt the window to the backside of the cut out. im figuring it should cost me less than 20$usd to get the window piece, bolts, thin strip of foam rubber sealer thingy, and a couple cutter wheels for a dremel.

Sooo.. I need some opinions when it comes to doing my case window.

Should I bolt it onto the case much like the frozen cpu kit suggests, or should I epoxy it with a good strong epoxy?

I was thinking of using the epoxy as it would give a nice clean appearance on the outside of the case.

I'm also not sure how I am going to mount the acrylic flush with the case. Should I attempt to router out the acrylic to make it fit into the cut out or should i just epoxy it on to the back of the panel and let it have that lip on it?

Well, I'll personally bolt the acrylic to the aluminum panel for a couple reasons - primarily because, from experience, acrylic invariably cracks, scratches, or scuffs. It's a lot easier and cleaner to unbolt a panel. The other reason is you can add detail by selecting a specific screw head style and color, plus use colored concave washers, to complement the exterior.

I guess if you want a fully 'clean' side though, epoxy would be the way to go. Also, with my Antec 902, Antec cut a 45* edge on the acrylic to allow it to sit nearly flush with the steel panel, so that's an option.

I would go with the bolt on. I have the side panel for mine from frozencpu.
