[Official] Cooler Master ATCS 840 Owners Club - Page 402

Also do you or anyone know if it is possible to retrofit some USB 3.0 ports in the top flip up panel, rather than having to put an extra bay device in the front? I want to keep it as clean as possible.
I have thought about it for the future, but right now don't have any USB 3.0 devices and my MOBO has two USB 3.0 ports on the rear I/O panel for the first devices I may get in the future.

I have gotten this USB 2.0 adapter

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812200474

to add additional USB 2.0 ports. I think you'd want something small like this but USB 3.0 if you want it to fit in the ATCS 840 pop-up. I didn't search for those but expect they'll become available.

The bigger issue is that the cables from the pop-up or any other USB 3.0 ports must connect to USB 3.0 headers either on your MOBO with a USB 3.0 controller on board OR to internal headers on an add-on PCI or PCI-e card that your MOBO has an available slot for.

I'm also not sure if you'll need USB 3.0 specific internal header cables

But I do think it would be a lot less hassle and probably cheaper to use a USB 3.0 bay device like the ones suggested by others. I have so many USB 2.0 devices (cameras, GPS, thumb drives, external HDDs) that I'll use the four pop-up USB 2.0 ports for years anyway.

One of the reasons I chose this case was the six 5.25" bays. If you have any empty bay use it. If appearance is more important you could look for a USB 3.0 external hub but it still has to plug into to a 3.0 controller someplace.

The Lamptron controller is excellent. Provides up to 30W per channel.
(Compare to the meager 5W of the NZXT Sentry LX Dual....)

As for the USB3.0 pop-up: think mor radical!
remove the entire "box" hanging from the pop-up and adapt something like the Silverstone Front-Panel SST-FP32. Which also has audio & firewire, Oops, just because the cable is blue don't mean its USB3.0.....
Look at the LianLi frontpanel page for tons of inspiration.

Don't worry about the end connector. Either your mainboard has the 20 pinner, or only the rear I/O plugs. Either way there are adapters. Look at the site of DeLock and/or InLine.

As for the Bitfenix fan. I Have not tried them, but would be tempted:
The pro Version:
Dimensions (mm): 230x200x30mm
Current (A): 0.41A ±10%
Speed (RPM): 900 RPM ±10%
Air Flow (CFM): 156.27 CFM ±10%
Air Pressure (mmH2O): 1.81 mmH2O
Noise (dB-A): 25.6 dB(A)

Compare to the "normal" version:
Dimensions: 230 x 230 x 30 mm
Current: 0.25 A
Speed: 900 RPM
Air Flow: 97.8CFM
Noise: <20 dBA
Air Pressure: 1.08 mmH2O
Material: PBT Plastic
Bearing Type: Fluid Dynamic Bearings (FDB)
Voltage: 12 V DC

Boils down to that the normal version is quieter, but the Pro version has 50% more volume out; and even more important: 75% more pressure.
I would definitely consider it as a replacement for the front intake fan.

One more edit/add-on:

For the wheels you could also consider the HAF-X Tool box, which includes four individual wheels plus tons of other stuff. At the dutch shop you can get it for €6!

@ chillgreg

Congrats on being an owner of the beautiful ATCS 840! The 100% aluminum really sold me too, and it just looks so classy. king.gif

Also, nice job digging up that build, it looks amazing! drool.gif

Anyways, to everyone lamenting the lack of caster wheels, this was my solution: I picked up a Antec Lanboy from Amazon. Its too short to sit on the four feet as they're positioned, so I initially removed the back two and simply used them as place holders, with nothing attaching them to the case.

But just yesterday I replaced my motherboard, so I took the chance to drill a couple holes and install a couple new feet I got from adanmtxt1. Thanks buddy! thumb.gif

Here are a couple pictures to show how it went.

450

I also put in a second 3.5" bay for an multi-card reader that I forgot I had (and looked much nicer than the one I had installed previously).
700

My case now rolls effortlessly across the floor, instead of me having to pick it up and drag it. thumb.gif This is going to be really nice once I finally get around to ordering those watercooling parts I'm planning on getting.

I actually have...I'm honestly just waiting for the time I'll ever take apart my computer again. Then I'll give myself reason to make room for some wheels. For now I'll continue give myself a workout whenever I have to move my case around.

@jetpak12 That mod looks great thumb.gif

Nice solution. You'll notice that the front and rear feet are threaded into heavy steel plates. You can't do that w/o blocking the PSU filter. I'd like to see you put 2-3 fender washers between the case and the nut on each new foot to prevent point stress on the thin aluminum case material.

Does your new MOBO have a FDD controller and header for your front Samsung FDD or is the drive running off an internal USB header or Type A connector?

Does your new MOBO have a FDD controller and header for your front Samsung FDD or is the drive running off an internal USB header or Type A connector?

Hmm, I see what you mean about the washers. Right now all I have are just some small flat washers. I'll see if I can get a couple bigger ones though, it sounds like a good idea.

And yes, my motherboard has a FDD connector. I still use it for Memtest, to load drivers, and a handful of old DOS games that I can run through DOSBox. I would have just found one of those floppy + multi-card reader in one units, but I already had each other separately, so it wasn't worth it to change.

Guess who just got 5 x 120mm and 1 x 230x200mm BitFenix Spectre Pro fans (all white LED) delivered, and 2 (yes 2!!!) Lamptron FC5V2 controllers! That's a single channel with temps and RPM's for every fan! I'm so excited  wheee.gif lol

This new 840 is soooooooooooo gorgeous. My brand new (decommissioned before it was commissioned) NZXT white Phantom is sitting next to it, and I'm sorry to say, but IMHO the ATCS 840 makes it look like a toy.

Edit: Now I'm just wondering if another 3 of the 120mm BitFenix's would be a good move (both aesthetically and for performance) to replace the top 2 original fans...
