Took me a while to get it right (unlucky sample I guess) but finally reached 4GHz+ stable. Thanks for the thread!! 8)

Blimey! Thanks!! 8)

At some point soon I'll be running lots of other tests (Cinebench, etc.),
especially video encoding, but I've already tested with Blender:

http://www.sgidepot.co.uk/blender.html

Only a couple of other SGI PC results there atm, but later today I'll add my
existing Athlon64 X2 6000+ system which I think was around 52 seconds
or so. And if I have time later I'll run the Oblivion tests I ran before for my
existing system:

http://www.sgidepot.co.uk/misc/mysystemsummary2.txt

I also have some disk data (mainly SCSI) if it's of any use:

http://www.sgidepot.co.uk/diskdata.html

It does include some SAS/SATA/FC drives aswell, including a WD VR 10K
and a couple of modern 1TB SATAs (Samsung F1 and F3).

My other main benchmark page which includes numerous PC results is C-ray:

http://www.sgidepot.co.uk/c-ray.html

but the page needs some reformatting, not had time yet. I can't test my i7
system though until I've done a Linux installation with a compiler setup,
something I've not done before.

Anyway, overall conclusion: the i7 rocks.

Hey, topdog and Chicken Patty, I'm sure others here would be interested
to know more about the cooling solutions you used, your experiences,
gotchas, etc. I'm just at the point where I'm contemplating water cooling.
So far I've not used anything better than air with a TRUE.

Ian.

hi, guys, i wuz wondering, at wut temps do silicon based TIM solidify? because i ran out of the micronized silver type, and im running on the OEM silicone type, and it raised my temps from 19 degreed to 29! and i did my 4.10 GHz to try for my 3dmark vantage scores, and i was hitting that 99 a lot, so yeh and how can i tell if it solidified yet without taking off the heatsink? also, this happend to by silver too, but sometimes when i take off the heatsink, the TIM gets all watery, and a majority of it just disappears, there are only stripes of the watery paste where the DHT heat pipe touch the CPU, this i find odd,

It is odd, never used that type of TIM before so I can't say from experience. Maybe it needs to be applied differently or different amount? Beats me bro

No problem and Ian, you might wanna try pm'ing them instead. Sometimes it can be difficult to keep track of who posted what.

Yeah, I'm not too sure about those OEM TIM. I'd suggest you get some well known stuff like MX3, ShinEtsu or even AS5 instead. At least, they're all proven to work (some with longer cure time like AS5).

I7 920 @ 4009mhz
6x1gb ddr3-1600 Patriot Viper memory
6xWD1600AAJS (160gb, 7200 rpm, 8mb buffer) Raid-0 (Yes i know it's risky, but i has NAS box and just backup once a week, love the speed)
Single VisionTek ATI Radeon HD4890-O.C.
Asus P6T Motherboard
Antec 300 Chassis
CoolerMaster GeminII S cpu heatsink cooler

Yes, ALL AIR COOLED (Can photo interior of case if you don't believe me)

Does run hot, around 78c-80c during wprime, and ran 48 hours of 3ds Max rendering yesterday and the day before for a friend, ran about 80c-82c during that with 8000 rpm Delta 92mm fan, and ambient room temps around 19.5c - 20c.
