seems like there is a new driver every couple of days.
Very hard to tell the difference between them
except when using 3d mark 06 and vantage

rofl someone trying to steal this thread thats funny never seen that befor on ocn...

well today i got my shaders to 1750 but i had to turn down my core to 620 or so. Did alot of folding and ran good ppd. Ran all day cool around 60c. It crashed eventualy when i loaded up a game for about 45 mins with folding going on in the back ground. Might have got hot without me noticing

EDIT forgot to say lets boycot the other thread!

Seems each clock is dependent on the other when overclocking.

Lower shader = higher core, and visa versa.

And folding + gaming I would imagine has to put some stress on the card

I am going to do some more testing this weekend and see how high i can push the core with the shader on stock and then try the shader.
Probably do some benching to see where the best performance gain is as well...

Alright. I'm past my return date for Fry's, but the awesome manager actually accepted my overclocks like **** argument...thus securing more future purchases from this man. Well, that and it likes to stutter @ the default OC speeds of 666. What were they thinking w/ that number?

So I've ruled out the 295 because I just don't wanna deal w/ the added noise...or heat for that matter. They have XFX w/ Farcry 2, PNY, BFG, and EVGA. Considering my luck w/ BFG, I've eliminated them. So...

XFX:
1. Farcry 2
2. Coolest sticker
3. 2x lifetime warranty

PNY:
1. Cheapest
2. I haven't seen any OC versions, so perhaps it might have the best chance at a good chip

EVGA:
1. Best customer service
2. I can change out the stock paste wo/ voiding warranty

I'm really curious to try out the PNY, but considering they used to be Pine, I fear their CS should something go wrong. Still, it's possible it could have the best chance @ a decent OC. Then we have the XFX w/ it's free game. I'm pretty sure they would do a good job of binning too, but perhaps not as extensive as EVGA. On the other hand EVGA will let me lick the card and still warranty it. And of course, we've got step as a fallback in case I get a terrible OC.

Thanks to 10acjed and some of you for that awesome binning article @ EVGA. You've helped alleviate some of my *****y ignorance. So guys, what would you do?

Also, and this may sound outlandish, but picking the card has always been fun for me. They usually have 10 or so and sometimes I take the one that looks best, hehe. Any idea or guess...anything about looking @ serial numbers? Perhaps a later number would indicate a better chip? I know, silly...

I'll be leaving for Fry's here shortly, so throw down! If I get enough love, I may post a pick of me licking the pcb later tonight.

Try PNY i had two GTX260 192sp from them and they overclocked GREAT!!!

Chumps. I got to Fry's and felt all nervous because the internet didn't bolster enough confidence in my decision. I shook in fear and almost fell over. Thankfully a RL friend could be reached on the telephone and we agreed the EVGA box looks better w/ the orange stripe. Plus they have a clear sheet over the sticker to prevent...something from happening to it. They even stuck it to the sticker on the fan!

So the big question. If I remove the small label on the side of the card to reveal the cooler etched-looking "GeForce" logo, will I void the warranty? I believe this will allow the card to reach FTW speeds.

Also a win, new card down clocks to 2d speeds and does not stutter!

Well the FTW/SSC cards have added bridging on them to increase voltage to 1.26vGpu as opposed to the 1.15v of the vanilla card. So removing a sticker wont matter. What will matter is if you core/shader/mem will handle those speeds...

And as long as you dont tear it all up, I think evga would take the excuse, it just fell off. I mean, its just a sticker...

And I would have went XfX and sold the gamefor 20$ and got the card for -20$

I was sorta hoping if it doesn't OC well, I could step up to a FTW or 295, but they're not available to be stepped up! Oh well, I've got 3 months, heh.

there are some rumours that a 275 gtx will be out soon.
Hopefully it wont be as good as a 285 gtx.You would not think so going by the name

The 275 is literally 1/2 of a 295... It will not have the same performance as the 285..

I have no factual proof (cause im too lazy to look) but I believe it should fall in between the 260 - 280, as far as performance is concerned...

These cards are all pretty close when it comes to performance, but I think we are secure in puffing out our chests and strutting the fastest single gpu on the market for a little while longer
