Using flashdrive to transfer files to PS3

I have one of the new 80Gb CECHK01 units, and want to transfer some music, images, etc over to it, so I bought an 8Gb Transcend FJ V60.

Doesn't work.

The PS3 recognizes the stick, and I performed a system backup to it successfully, but the PS3 won't recognize any of the files on it.

I put a JPG, an MP3, and an MPEG on it and then went to each of the main menu items (Photo, Music, Video). Each one shows the 8Gb stick, but when I choose it, it says 'no tracks' and so on.

I accidentially threw out the manual on Xmas day , but searched all over online and everywhere it says I should be able to transfer these types of files onto the PS3.

What am I doing wrong? Is is the flash drive stick itself that is not the right one, or does it have to be formatted in a certain way or something?

My computer sees it just fine of course, and the PS3 was able to use it to backup and can see it, just can't seem to see the files on it.

You have to format the jump drive to FAT32 on your computer. Then the ps3 will recognize it. But remember with FAT32 you can't save files bigger than 4gb.

Also when you plug it into the ps3 (after it's formatted properly) you may have to find the stick and push triangle (I believe) to "show all files" and then copy them from there.

yah! that worked fine. i think it was properly formatted, i just had to 'show all'. i wonder why the system would give you an error message saying 'no tracks' and require you to 'show all' not very friendly.

but i shouldn't be complaining - it works now.

now if i can get the ps3 to recognize my PC on the same network (problem with UPNP or something maybe) then i'll be cooking with gas

Yeah, I don't think it needs to be formatted, you just need to use triangle and select "Show All"

Reason being so: the PS3 will automatically try to locate your music and pictures in a folder named "PS3" on the flashdrive. If that folder doesn't exist, the PS3 shows no files being present.

If you ever copy a game save from your PS3 onto your flash drive, you'll see that it'll automatically create a PS3 folder with another sub folder inside of it, with your game save data inside that folder.

Just highlight the stick and hit Triangle. Display all? If you don't put your AVI, MP3 in a folder it would detect it.

It'll work without having to hit show all if you put the files into their own folder that's name MUSIC, VIDEO, etc on the flash drive.

When I try to copy pics from my flash drive to my PS3 the "copy" and "copy all" options are grayed out. Any ideas as to why and how I can fix it?
