Wood Techstation: Joinery Fun

Here is the latest mutation of my 5 year journey toward the perfect techstation.

Get this: it's held together without any fasteners. 14 x 16 x 18 tall

The following pictures are of a prototype proof of concept...not a finished product. Your input is relevant to my interests

Quick Spec:

~Designed for easy access, ideal airflow and superior cable management

~Top Mounted Mobo on reverse standoffs uses thumbscrews or nothing to keep the board in place

~Mobo shelf has smooth routed openings for access to HS mount or cabling

~Polished aluminum expansion card brace is drilled and tapped for thumbscrews

~Middle shelf can hold up to two 1200 watt powersupplies, with back panel or side panel backplane options

~Mounts for two Optical Drives or Bay Devices....or more...DVD, Fan Controller, Reservoir

~Quick-Release Friction Fit Side Panels for easy access

~Up to 12 HDD Capacity in Quick Release Undermount

~Tool-less Fan Mount Option for HDDs and Motherboard

~Can be stained, varnished, polyurethaned, laminated, veneered, painted, stenciled, gold or silver leafed (not kidding: have both in hand )

~Can be shipped flat and it's the lightest weight techstation I've built to date

Tool-less mount Optical Drives (or bay devices)


Quick release front panel yeilds quick access to Powersupply and cabling, but hides it when you are done




Like wise the side panels come off in an instant for full access to the underside of the mobo, PSU(s) cabling, pumps.


Back panel or side panels could be ported for the powersupply to provide additional support if you plan to be taking your techstation to a LAN


Comes standard with one 6-Drive Quick Release strip. You see there is room ofor another. Active Cooling is optional...use the provided velcro strips to attach your own fans where you want Cabling holes still to be made in this photo. You could easily hand a rad here


Mobo is on 1" reversed standoffs for rapid mounting and stealthy cabling



Smoothly routed openings for cabling and access to the HS mount areas of the board


1" stand offs so you can easily route the cabling or tubing under the board


Polished aluminum brace is drill and tapped for thumnbscrews to secure cards


You want to run your rig on the side to bleed the loop or whathaveyou? No probs


Dadoes on two of the sides of each leg socket the notched shelves


Legs and shelves are symmetrical and interchangeable and a very tight friction fit


You couldn't slip a frog hair in that joint


Unique method of construction makes it easy to assemble...all the pieces are symmetrical and only go together in one way.


Reversed standoffs mean no fumbling about...just drop the board on the station and go.Thumbscrews on each standoff are optional...but not required

This is the base model. No side panels...just two pre cut, predrilled, routed shelves and 4 legs, a drill and tapped card brace with #6 screws, stand offs and/or associated mounting screws and a 6-HDD Quick Mount Strip.

Priced as you see it but with smoothly routed holes for HDD cabling $100

Sand and seal 2 coats and build 3 coats clear $125, stain first add $25

Hello. It has two optical Drive bays.

Yeah man it sure can. The only limiting factor is the lngth of the PSU. It's about 10" from the back panel to the optical drive. a long PSU like a 1200 watter would have to go side to side, or you could put both optical drives on one side to make room and run it back to front.

The rear panel can deffo have a proper 4-screw mount.
