what are you smoking? you only need enough to cover the area that the cores are under, not the entire IHS as that would be not only a waste of TIM, but also too much TIM insulating heat. This is not AS5 and it doesn't act the same as AS5. You actually need less for the same results.

Also, comparing to the first test in my quote, i'm getting consistent results with both the X23 and the IC7.

He's not smoking anything. Look at the Innovation Cooling application instructions. That is how they want you to do the testing, and according to them, that is the most efficient way to use it.

A modest proposal, but I suggest you try it their way for a few of your tests.

Good luck.

test one is finished. i'm now working on test 2. it's taking longer because i'm trying to keep ambients the same through out tests and the weather here is fluctuating very rapidly.

(snowy to 60*F is extreme in winter)

Test 2 finished, funny thing though, i applied a tad bit more (because of the complainers about how i wasn't using enough) and i got temp increases of 3*C.

The one thing that will make you think shin etsu performs better is that it cures so fast. IC Diamond on the other hand keeps getting better after 12 hours. My temps didn't level out until around 48 hours. At that point I had a 11C Drop from Arctic silver 5 on my #1 core of my i7. AS5 core #1 @ 38C after 48 hours curing. IC Diamond core #1 @ 29C After 48 hours. That's after appling probably too much. On say a GTX 470 chip, do you want to use the pee size dot of ic diamond to cover the whole chip or what? I think i might pick up some shin etsu since it's so cheap and flippin amazing results fast too! I think IC Diamond may exceed shin etsu after it has fully cured. Who knows though? Let IC Diamond cure for 24 hours at a minimum, then compare!

love this post OP!! I too am experimenting with the X23-7762 and have been having issues all over the place (mostly w/ my water block), i am using watercooling so taking apart is a p.i.t.a

I switched over to cooler master ThermalFusion400 and will let that cure for 48 hrs to see if my temps drop. After that I might try the 7762 again, but using your dot method. I used the fat strip down the center my first time.

hello's,
i have been playing with the diamond stuff,i have the antec formula 6.i use the spreader to dab a fine white mist over the cpu and the give a little pea in the middle to improve the suction of the cpu and heat sink, maybe its less all over with the diamond stuff.
i have just picked up a h100 with the shin etsu pre-applied,i will give input if i reseat the cooler.
