I have never heard of this, but I would imagine covering any slots would be necessary.

I'm not experienced with pcb laqueor but I would cover up any slots (sata, pcie etc) or onboard fan plugins, onboard usb, or anything like that. I would guess that if the contacts get coated with pcb lacquer cards, fans, etc will not make a good connection if at all when plugged in rendering the board useless.

Yes i was told by previous owner of the phase change that spray 3 coats for extra protection ,what botherd me was the contacts in the pcie slots and so on if the lacquer got in there it would not pick my card and ddr up when i turn it on.
I thought it would be a good idea to join this forum to get more advice on things before i start phase change, its very helpfull

yes you dont want it IN the slots. tape them off

coat the back of the mobo so the leads dont short out if condensation occurs. then insulate the top of the mobo as well, I prefer conformal coating/etc since it is easy to control. other things may work as well. the top doesnt need as much work as the back, since the gasket and dialectic grease should insulate the top and keep any condensation at bay

You would only need it around the socket.... Do NOT spray it all over the board as it is completely useless.
yea around the socket is fine. Actually, I would just buy some fingernail polish and brush it on. That's what I do and it works perfectly fine.

The only awkward part about using clear fingernail polish is being in the dreaded cosmetic section looking for it.
