Hello everyone.

I currently own some decent products for my audio gear. I have a Schiit Bifrost as my DAC, which sends audio to my Schiit Asgard 2 amplifier. My headphones are a set of Philips Fidelio X1. The DAC and amp are both very clear, and neutral, and from what I read at the time of buying, among the best for it's price range. I don't really have a need or urge to upgrade the pieces of equipment. From the RCA output on the Asgard 2, when not using my headphones, I send analog signal so an S.M.S.L. Q5 Pro. It has a DAC built in, but I've yet to try it. I think my Bifrost is likely better anyways, and the Q5 does not amplifier headphones, so, I'd still need something for that. This set up works pretty well, as the S.M.S.L Q5 has a remote control and is easy to control with it being a bit out of reach. For speakers I currently have a pair of Klipsch Icon KB-15's. They're pretty decent for their price as well, as they were $125 for the pair on Amazon new.

Over all, I'm looking to upgrade some equipment though. The Q5 Pro has plenty of power, and seems clear enough for me to be content with for a while, especially with it's smaller size. As I mentioned earlier, too, the DAC and headphone amplifier are all okay as far as I'm concerned also. I've been looking at upgrading my headphones and speakers, though. I'm looking for a very clear, detailed, and good looking bookshelf and sub woofer. Though a bit pricey, the KEF Q300 bookshelf pair has caught my attention. They seem to have really good reviews and would fit in with my set up quite well. For a sub, since I have a thing for matching equipment, I was considering getting something like the KEF Q400b subwoofer to pair with them. I'm a bit of a basshead, so, it might be tuned with a bit of emphasis on the bass, but I also like a slight "V-shape" tone signature. I've heard the tweeters are excellent on the KEF Q300's as well, and some people said that the Q300's on their own have a slightly recessed middle range, so this would fit the V signature I'm looking for.

As for headphones go, I do love the X1's. They're open back and staging is excellent. They also have some really kick butt bass, and are just a great headphone for the price range. But, considering my new environment and house accommodations, I need a new pair of headphones. Something closed back. It doesn't need to be completely sound dampening or deadening, but a pure open back design or even semi-open is not really a good suite for me anymore. So, I've been looking into the Fostex TH-600 and TH-900. The reviews all say the TH-600's are excellent, and have the sound I'm looking for. But the TH-900's seem to be the top-tier from Fostex, and the bigger brother to the TH-600's. Given the quality of my DAC and amplifier, I'm also leaning towards the TH-900's, since they're more appropriate for the higher end DAC and amplifier than middle-tier cans like the TH-600's. Also, lastly, considering that I can't find any new TH-600's for less than $850 (when they normally retail for $550ish) and that the TH-900's are usually on sale for $1,100, is why I'm leaning towards the TH-900's. I've also considered Fostex's TH-900 MK. II, which have a proprietary detachable cable. I don't know if it's really necessary, and worth paying full MSRP on the TH-900's just for that though.

What do you guys think? Sorry for the novel. tongue.gif
