But then you can't fit the chip in the little bracket. Even if you could undo the latch, it's still essentially stuck to the board.

Humm, that makes it a bit more difficult. Razor blade still seems like the best solutino. But be carefull. Like McStuff said, you basicly glued you're cooler to your chip - sooo, you'll might have some problems completely removing the stuff after you've removed the cooler also. Good luck on this one!

I was thinking of like the old amd sockets where it was just a latch.

Ignore that, but i would still try to pry a razor blade inbetween

cheers mate ile try that, its my only hope. i will get it off even if it takes days, then i will beat the stock cooler to a pulp.

dont try to take the latch up and then the chip off, it wont work cause the chip is in there with a bracket.

but i would try the razor blade inbetween the chip and heatsink

You can try getting the CPU very warm and see if it loosens it up any. Thats all I can think of. This is the first time I have ever heard of anyone doing this.
