Stock Cooler Stuck - Page 3

Wow that really sucks..

Try heating it up as high you as can and then use a razor blade to slowly separate the heatsink and cpu.

I heard using nail polish remover/ WD40 works great on breaking the bond in the adhesive though it's kind of risky to do so...

Put intel burn test on and get that thing hot, then shut it down and gently twist it from side to side. Even epoxy should become pliable when heated up enough. Good luck.

Try to heat it up, then get the razor blade. If that doesn't work, disconnect everything, and try to get a little alcohol between them to help break it down, then back to the razor blade.

run to a local store get some epoxy remover and dribble real carefully between cpu and heatsink, second guess like a lot of ppl are suggesting would be soaking it in a paint thinner bath, at least you shouldnt damage components that way... also possible is using some oven cleaner, but i think it would be a bit agressive on the board itself, so be carefull if you use any of the chemicals...

just my two cents...

oh and before you use heat, i would refer to COLD temperatures. like ln2 or something close to it, if you dont have ln2 use a can of de dust or similar, turn head over and hold it inbetween.
thermal bondings are always better to break with cool temps then with heat;-)

Hrm....leave the pins loose, fire it up, run 1.6Vcore, then IBT. If it doesn't melt that epoxy under those conditions, it isn't going to under any conditions the CPU is likely to survive.

You can try baking it in your oven, at 500F for 20 minutes or so...but the chances of ANYTHING still working after that are next to nil.

If you want to heat it up to remove it then you need to find out what the glass-transition temperature of the epoxy is.. Once you get the temp up that high the the epoxy should soften... Sorry I don't know what that temperature is though.. Also, you don't want to heat up the CPU too much because it might/will stop working or decrease in performance..
