i did a little searching and found people who had the same problem with graphics cards. They wacked the suckers in the freezer for 24 hours and then used the razor blade, if i did this with my mobo? feels sketchy to me, wot do u guys think?

Um no lol. I am pretty sure the fridge has condensation and stuff in it. I wouldn't risk it.

of all the suggestions in this thread I gotta say intel burn test then try the razor blade is the best advice so far... good luck chief!!

You can actually do this, condensation wont be a problem if you let the board sit for another 24 hours to come back up to temp and dry out. Acetone can remove epoxy, but you will NEVER get the cpu hot enough to soften the epoxy. Epoxy sets because of a thermal reaction and will not become soft without a tremendous amount of heat. Probably for than 500 degrees before it fails.

Well first of all I have to say sorry to hear that you did this. Second, I would say run that thing with the stock cooler as long as you can. Seems to me the risk of breakage it to great for that nice set up. Run it with the stock cooler with as much of an OC thats safe as far as temps go. Get some use out of it before you kill it IMO.

Another idea is to go get a high e string for a guitar, put some thick gloves on, wrap the string around your hands, and try to run that between the chip and cooler.
That would be easier to do then using a razor blade

I think Locool might be on to something. A sawing action of a thin steel string might just do it. I would suggest either that or a razor blade while it's frozen.

You will probably have to do this repeatedly as the heatsink works backwards too. It will essentially be heating up your cpu because it's drawing the cold temperature of the cpu to the warmer air around it. So you could probably only work on it for 10-15 minutes before you need to freeze it again for an hour or so.

It will likely be painstaking. Take your time and it will hopefully work out. Don't get frustrated and start hacking away. Be patient and let us know if you are making any progress.

You really don't have to worry about condensation. Just let it come to room temp and dry out for 24 hours. Make sure you are always grounded while doing this as well. It would definitely suck to get the cooler off only to find you killed the board with ESD.

The safest course of action would be to deal with it and not overclock. That stuff is meant to be permanent. I just used some on a RAID card cpu that is only like 1CMx1CM contact area and it is stuck very well. I can't tilt or budge it at all.

This will defiantly not work or be easier. You will be pulling a round wire against a solid surface, and even the smallest guitar string is extremly large compared to the edge of a razor blade. Once the epoxy is frozen it will become very fragile, so the razor should make quick work of it.

Use this type...

With the tougher edge you can take a small tool and tap it in between the two.
