I know this is an old thread, but I need some help. This the first time I've volt modded a graphics card, so bare with me.
I have two volt modded 9600GT's. The first is a BFG reference board, the second is the evga with a non reference board. Both cards are on air using their stock coolers, with new thermal paste and pads. I plan on running these in SLI until I find a good deal on a new graphics card.
I have been getting great results with the BFG. I've only done the VID mod on it. I have it set to 1.20v, my idle is a little higher then that, and under load it reads close to 1.26. Currently I have it running at 800Mhz Core, 1900Mhz shaders. I can get the shaders to 2000Mhz stable but I have to lower the core due to heat limits. Idle temp is 42C, full load temp is 70C.
Now with the evga card, I cannot get the core much past 750Mhz and the shaders above 1750Mhz without ATI tool showing errors (The BFG can do this at stock voltage). I have soldered on a 100K variable resistor to the VGPU, and have adjusted it so the voltage reads close to what the BFG card does (within 0.005v). I've tried pushing the voltage to 1.23v idle, 1.30v under load and that didn't have any effect other then create more heat. This card runs a little warmer at idle. 47C idle, 63C load, but it takes about twice as long for this card to heat up even with the volt mod and OC applied. I have not done a VID mod on it. I do not know where it is on this card.
I'll upload pics of the card once I get my camera working. The evga card uses the same board as the MSI non reference Version B:
